Summary

truly wtf did I just read

Depresssing。 Somewhat predicable on who was involved, somewhat not。 Didn’t like as much as the Silent Patient, the writing was a bit disjointed。 But overall got through it in a couple days so it certainly held my interest!

My God, this book was something else。 I expected to like The Silent Patient much more than I did, so I was hesitant to pick up Michaelides’ newest thriller。 But it did not disappoint。 There wasn’t a moment of pause in the thrills, twists, and turns, and nothing was quite as it seemed。 Best thriller I’ve read in years。

2。5 stars rounded。 This was a disappointment as I was such a huge fan of The Silent Patient。 The only reasons why it's at a 2。5 and the only things that I enjoyed from this book were the super short chapters and how it related to The Silent Patient towards the end。 It took me 4 days to read this which is considerably long for my standards of a ~350 page book。 There were so many times where I found myself wanting to DNF this but the short chapters and the fact that I bought it made me power throu 2。5 stars rounded。 This was a disappointment as I was such a huge fan of The Silent Patient。 The only reasons why it's at a 2。5 and the only things that I enjoyed from this book were the super short chapters and how it related to The Silent Patient towards the end。 It took me 4 days to read this which is considerably long for my standards of a ~350 page book。 There were so many times where I found myself wanting to DNF this but the short chapters and the fact that I bought it made me power through。 If you have the patience to sit through about 200 pages of flat, unnecessary details to get to the part where it starts picking up, then try it。 There were so many plot holes in the story and I still have questions that are unanswered。 So many parts of the books were so random and I thought it would actually make sense at the end。 。。。more

I liked this book just as much as, if not better than, the silent patient。 It may be because I love England and have been to Cambridge so I can picture everything he described。 It may be because I was obsessed with Greek mythology as a child。 It may be because it reminds me of British who-done-it television series, like Broadchurch。 It was really good and I loved that Alex did a nod to the silent patient by including the characters Theo and his patient, Alicia Berenson。 Phenomenal job!

4。5I finished this book a couple of days ago, but the details of it is still fresh on my mind so you know its a good one。 This book was recommended to me by a friend of mine who adores this author and she assured me it would not disappoint - and it didn't。 this was the best mystery/thriller I've read in a while。 the suspense of it all and the final reveal was definitely NOT what i expected。 the author did such an amazing job during the ending, my jaw was on the floor。 go read this book right now 4。5I finished this book a couple of days ago, but the details of it is still fresh on my mind so you know its a good one。 This book was recommended to me by a friend of mine who adores this author and she assured me it would not disappoint - and it didn't。 this was the best mystery/thriller I've read in a while。 the suspense of it all and the final reveal was definitely NOT what i expected。 the author did such an amazing job during the ending, my jaw was on the floor。 go read this book right now! it was short, literally like 300 pgs, but had so much packed into it - just *chefs kiss* 。。。more

3。5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️Okay so this book was okay and fairly enjoyable。 I love The Silent Patient and so I was looking forward to starting this。 Both take place in the same universe and we get to see Theo again。 But in my opinion, this wasn’t as hooking as the silent patient which was slightly disappointing。 I didn’t really find the murder mystery that engaging but somewhere in the middle I did start to get more interested。 I love the Greek references to the different tragedies, that was really enjoyab 3。5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️Okay so this book was okay and fairly enjoyable。 I love The Silent Patient and so I was looking forward to starting this。 Both take place in the same universe and we get to see Theo again。 But in my opinion, this wasn’t as hooking as the silent patient which was slightly disappointing。 I didn’t really find the murder mystery that engaging but somewhere in the middle I did start to get more interested。 I love the Greek references to the different tragedies, that was really enjoyable to read because I loved Greek Mythology。 I didn’t think the prologue was that necessary and the plot twist really caught me off guard。 I loved the twist at the end but looking back, I feel like I should’ve seen it coming because of how Zoe and Sebastian seemed to be。 。。。more

I loved Alex Michaelides first book The Silent Patient, so I was excited to pick this one up。 That being said, there are so many things in this book that just reflected TSP too closely。 I read them both in the same few days, so at times it just felt too much like I was rereading the same book。 I believe it did redeem itself in the end, but overall not as good as the first。My recommendation is, if you read TSP, wait a good month or two (or longer) before reading this one。 Breaking them up more ma I loved Alex Michaelides first book The Silent Patient, so I was excited to pick this one up。 That being said, there are so many things in this book that just reflected TSP too closely。 I read them both in the same few days, so at times it just felt too much like I was rereading the same book。 I believe it did redeem itself in the end, but overall not as good as the first。My recommendation is, if you read TSP, wait a good month or two (or longer) before reading this one。 Breaking them up more may provide some separation between the themes and allow you to enjoy this book more individually rather than in a comparative way。 。。。more

I really enjoyed this book。 I liked the subtle tie ins between this one and his other The Last Patient。 Great shocking ending。

so… this book is trying to say that some things can be so obvious in front of us yet we’re so oblivious to them because we let our feelings cover up truths we are not ready to face nor willing to see。 the plot could’ve been done better, why?because you cant convince your reader of something for 98% of the time then suddenly expect us to accept or even comprehend an ending where everything is confusing and jumbled (: the ending felt too rushed。 i truly believe that if there was a chapter veering so… this book is trying to say that some things can be so obvious in front of us yet we’re so oblivious to them because we let our feelings cover up truths we are not ready to face nor willing to see。 the plot could’ve been done better, why?because you cant convince your reader of something for 98% of the time then suddenly expect us to accept or even comprehend an ending where everything is confusing and jumbled (: the ending felt too rushed。 i truly believe that if there was a chapter veering us to a possibility where Fosca wasn’t the killer, the ending would’ve been more acceptable and still be surprising! i liked The Silent Patient more。 。。。more

IN THE WOODS? at night!? ma belle??? ew?the last 20 pages went by so damn fast it felt like a recap on x2 speed。 why did they not commit to giving us a satisfying ending? like i read 300 pages for this? did you not think about me at all? it’s kinda rude to say the leastthey did mariana so dirty and omg wtf was that henry plot?? i feel like the author gave up on that plot line midbook but was too lazy to either delete his character or actually give him more hmm screen time but for books… you know?also where do i even begin… even if edward fosca didn’t kill the girls, im sure he killed other ppl bc who tf eats raw meat? also his whole persona is so cringe if he’s NOT a genius mastermind killer。 so embarrassing, i almost pity him🤣 fred? premonitions? really? thats the best you could do? also, im sad bc i feel like it was a let down, the setting and premise was very promising In two words, or maybe 3, this book was cheap and the author had a big fat lack of commitment。 don’t do that again<3 love, me。 。。。more

Following "The Silent Patient" I had high hopes for this story, I read it blindly, trusting the author。 But this story felt like it was a mystery that was drug on, and the ending was less satisfying and more frustrating。 The ending felt disconnected from the storyline。 Sadly enough, I feel like I wasted my time reading this one。 The Greek mythological background was the most interesting part of the story for me, everything else felt like meaningless chaos。 Following "The Silent Patient" I had high hopes for this story, I read it blindly, trusting the author。 But this story felt like it was a mystery that was drug on, and the ending was less satisfying and more frustrating。 The ending felt disconnected from the storyline。 Sadly enough, I feel like I wasted my time reading this one。 The Greek mythological background was the most interesting part of the story for me, everything else felt like meaningless chaos。 。。。more

I have to agree with manav on this one the conclusion felt disjointed, especially compared to the silent patient。 still enjoyed the thriller-ness of it but didn’t have that same rewarding aha moment。 also so much was left unresolved

Kate Merolla

A little out there but a compelling book。 Especially interesting as a follow-up to ‘The Silent Patient’。

Shelby

I found the plot twist to be very disturbing, for sure did not see it coming。 Great read!

It alright。

3。5 stars, couldn’t put it down! super enjoyable, kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time。 surprisingly easy read, & as a greek woman i’m always a sucker for greek characters or greek myths being referenced and this had so much of that lol

This book was just ok for me。 It's written in a way that basically tells you what to think, much like how the main characters state of mind is, she has already made up her mind who the killer is。 There is a twist but it was short lived and rushed。 This book was just ok for me。 It's written in a way that basically tells you what to think, much like how the main characters state of mind is, she has already made up her mind who the killer is。 There is a twist but it was short lived and rushed。 。。。more

this book started off amazingly, i was loving it, the plot the characters and how everything was building up。 it was written perfectly with everything falling into place。 a perfect 5/5 star book。and then the last 50 pages came。 the main character became extremely irritable, i didn’t like her at all in that time frame, the same points were being repeated over and over again and it was just terrible。 the way it ended was actually good, but the writing and the way the characters turned out was bad。 this book started off amazingly, i was loving it, the plot the characters and how everything was building up。 it was written perfectly with everything falling into place。 a perfect 5/5 star book。and then the last 50 pages came。 the main character became extremely irritable, i didn’t like her at all in that time frame, the same points were being repeated over and over again and it was just terrible。 the way it ended was actually good, but the writing and the way the characters turned out was bad。 and the resolution was bad too, it seemed like something you could pull out of a high school descriptive essay。although it started off absolutely beautifully, because of the ending (not the plot of the ending but more of the characters and the way they acted) was the reason this book was scored so low for me。however, i would recommend this book to someone, funnily enough。 。。。more

i will say i really set myself up for disappointment with this one。 based on the synopsis i went into it banking on Secret History vibes, and it fell so short。 on top of that it committed the cardinal sin of being pretty predictable。 the book isn't horrible, i made it through, but it was far from my favorite read of the year。 i will say i really set myself up for disappointment with this one。 based on the synopsis i went into it banking on Secret History vibes, and it fell so short。 on top of that it committed the cardinal sin of being pretty predictable。 the book isn't horrible, i made it through, but it was far from my favorite read of the year。 。。。more

Okay this book wassss perhaps the most predictable book I’ve ever read(sort of) lol 。。 over all This was a hit for me! Im a slut for any book set in England, especially somewhere like Cambridge university 😍 Separately I also loveee Greek mythology & and any kind of grief books。 This had all of that mixed all together nicely🖤

Ana karaktere cidden gıcık oldum verdiği cevaplar, salaklığı ve çevirinin de etkisi vardı bunda。 Daha detaylı yazılıp o sonu daha güzel bağlayabilirmiş yazar ama son anda galeyana gelmiş gibi。 Yunan mitolojisi öğeleri vardı ama sonlara doğru onla ilgili yaptığı bağlantılarda kopuk kopuktu bence。 Daha iyi düzenlenip daha iyi bir hikaye yazılabilirmiş。 Eğer okuyacaksanız ilk 100 sayfadan hiçbir halt beklemeyin bu arada。 Bi bok olmuyo çünkü。 Ayrıca çok fazla işe yaramayan yan karakter vardı。 Neden Ana karaktere cidden gıcık oldum verdiği cevaplar, salaklığı ve çevirinin de etkisi vardı bunda。 Daha detaylı yazılıp o sonu daha güzel bağlayabilirmiş yazar ama son anda galeyana gelmiş gibi。 Yunan mitolojisi öğeleri vardı ama sonlara doğru onla ilgili yaptığı bağlantılarda kopuk kopuktu bence。 Daha iyi düzenlenip daha iyi bir hikaye yazılabilirmiş。 Eğer okuyacaksanız ilk 100 sayfadan hiçbir halt beklemeyin bu arada。 Bi bok olmuyo çünkü。 Ayrıca çok fazla işe yaramayan yan karakter vardı。 Neden abi?! I like Author Alex Michaelides' style and writing prose, that being said this story fell a little flat after The Silent Patient and its edge-of-your-seat story and cool characters and twisty twist。 I recommend reading this one first that you build to a crescendo! A very good mystery and plot, however, the characters were flat AF。 I really liked that Theo Faber from The silent Patient made an appearance in this story and loved the tie-in to The Silent Patient。 Definitely a quick, easy, good read。 I like Author Alex Michaelides' style and writing prose, that being said this story fell a little flat after The Silent Patient and its edge-of-your-seat story and cool characters and twisty twist。 I recommend reading this one first that you build to a crescendo! This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Say this book just didn't do it for me。Firstly the characters just weren't interesting other than maybe Fred。。he was strange and put me on edge。 Considering Mariannas job she wasn't very good with people。I get where the book was going with with ancient greek and the godesses but it was just completely overloaded with it which really put me off。I'm not really sure what the point of Henry's character was for!? I liked how he was almost obsessed with Marianna and then it just turned into nothing 🙄M Say this book just didn't do it for me。Firstly the characters just weren't interesting other than maybe Fred。。he was strange and put me on edge。 Considering Mariannas job she wasn't very good with people。I get where the book was going with with ancient greek and the godesses but it was just completely overloaded with it which really put me off。I'm not really sure what the point of Henry's character was for!?
